Life Sketch of “Mantra Murthi Dasan” His Holiness Guruji Venkatesa Battachar Swamigal
His Holiness “Mantra Murthi Dasan” Venkatesa Battachar Swamigal was the Founder Trustee of Sri Viswaroopa Panchamukha Anjaneya Swami Foundation and the chief disciple of His Holiness RangaSwami Battachar. He was the Guru of “Sri Meenakshi Kataksha” Lakshmi.
Guruji was born in a small village called Sithamalli, near Sirkali, TamilNadu in 1927 to the devout Hindu Sri Vaishnava couple, Sri Srinivasa Battachariar and Srimathi Alamelu Ammal, in the lineage of Sri Vaikaanasa gurus.
Guru Even before the age of 7, Guruji learnt how to perform pooja in temples from his maternal grand father. He became a trained Archaka(priest) at that age. At the age of seven, he was invested with the sacred thread and sent to the Veda Patashala at Thiruvasainallur, near Kumbakonam. He studied there for two years and acquired expertise in Vedas. From his tenth year he started performing temple worships in several places. He also learnt the Scriptures from Mahavidwan “Vyakarana Siromani” Sri Ubhaya Vedanta Srinivasa Battachar.
In 1943, he married Sowbhagyavathi Rukmini, daughter of Sri Seshadrinatha Battachar. At the time of his marriage, Guruji came into contact with H.H RangaSwami Battachar of Anathandavapuram, near Mayavaram. Guruji soon became the chief disciple of H.H Ranga Swami Battachar.
Guruji was in charge of temple duties at various temples in and around Kumbakonam like Kallur, Tennalur, Kadichampatti. In the midst of all his duties, he used to do kainkaryam (service) to his Guru. His Guru taught him the various aspects of Mantra yoga,Yantras,Shastras,Astrology. He initiated him into various mantras like Maha Ganapathi Mantra, Sri Meenakshi mantra,Maha Sudharsana Mantra,Durga Saptashati Mantra and Sri Durga Shoolini Mantra.
Guruji assisted his Guru in various Yagnas and Homas. He learnt about drawing yantras and various esoteric aspects of Mantra Shastra. Not just stopping with learning, Guruji did elaborate upasana with stringent penances like Fasting(Upavasa), Mouna Vratas(Silence), Purascharanas.
After spending nearly 15 years with his Guru, in 1965, at the age thirty-eight, his Guru gave the approval to make use of his Mantra powers at his own discretion for the well being of others. By the time, he had attained the Mantra Siddhi of his Upasana Deities. Right from the day, he started alleviating the sufferings of his devotees by way of Mantras, Pujas, Homams, Yantras, Astrology etc.
In 1977 he settled in Kumbakonam and in his house, he constructed a small temple to enshrine deities like Maha Kali, Meenakshi and Kala Bairavar. Every year, during the Sharada Navaratri (Durga Puja) and Vasantha Navarathri festivals he would observe Mouna Vrata(silence) for 10 days and perform the Maha Nava Chandi yagnam on the Maha Navami day.
References to him came up in various ancient scroll used by Nadi astrologers (Palm leaf astrology). Many of them have sent people to him to seek ways of expiation (Pariharam).
Soon he took to Vanaprasta Ashrama (Renounciation of householder life). His Guru initiated him into Sri Panchamukha Anjaneya Swami Moola Mantra and Upasana. In his lifetime, Guruji had initiated hundreds into various holy mantras such as Maha Ganapathi Mantra, Chandi Navakshari Mantra, Shakti Panchakshari Mantra, Lakshmi Sudarshana Mantra, Hayagriva Mantra (vidhya Jayam), Maha Lakshmi Mantra and Puja. He was a repository of Mantra shastra and dedicated his life to the propogation of mantra shastra to benefit the humanity. He had performed hundreds of Homams and Yagnas to mitigate the sufferings of devotees.
Guruji was divinely ordained by Goddess Meenakshi to submit the Panchamukha Hanuman Mantras for Loka Kshema (Universal welfare) by transferring all his spiritual powers to a Panchamukha Hanuman Yantra and install a Panchamukha Anjaneya Swami Murti over it. It was during this time, Sri “Meenakshi Kataksha” Lakshmiji was identified by Guruji as his spiritual successor.
Guruji and Lakshmiji approached the Kanchi Shankaracharya H.H. Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal and obtained his blessings and Srimukham to install Sri Panchamukha Anjaneya Swami Murthi and construct the Ashram.
Using his enormous spiritual powers, Guruji identified the place where the Ashram was to be built as Thiruvallur in Tamilnadu. He also identified that the stone for making of the idol would be got from Hassan in North Karnataka. It was due to his tapas shakti, that stone was identified, moved down from the top of a hill and transported to Thiruvallur in Tamilnadu seamlessly crossing a huge distance of around 800 kilometers.
Once the construction of the temple is complete, the Moola Mantras of Sri Panchamukha Hanuman will be written on the walls facing each Mukha and anybody without any discrimination on the lines of caste, creed, religion, gender or status can chant specified number of times for specific period. The specific Moola Mantra relevant to the the devotee and the remedy will be readily available to such devotee. Thus the Moola Mantras of Sri Panchamukha Anjaneya Swami will become available for the welfare of the world community.
Guruji moved to Thiruvallur to oversee the construction of the Ashram in 2002. After ensuring that the scultpturing of the Swami stone had commenced and the Panchamukha Hanuman yantra was ready and his mission was moving towards fulfillment , Guruji attained Kaivalyam (the lotus feet of God) on 31-March-2003 on Uttirattadhi Nakshatra. His bountiful blessings are available to those who think of him as described in the Dakshinamoorthy Stotram of Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
