22nd Maha Nava Chandi Yagnam – A Report
Nava Chandi Homam was conducted with great piety and devotion on 24th July 2011 at “Meenakshi Illam” in Tiruvallur. The Chandi Homam was conducted as per our Guru Parampara vidaanam under the aegis of Dr. Sri Lakshmi Ji. The homam started with Ganapathi Puja and Ganapati aavaahanam.
As usual the prime objective of the homam was to achieve “lokakshemam” i.e Wellbeing of one and all. The Homam began at 2.00 pm instead of the normal 3.00 pm.
One of the highlights of the homam conducted on this day was that the sankalpam was made by more than 25 devotees. The devotees, some of them did their sankalpams as couples. The ritwik conducted the sankalpam for each and every devotee present in the divine presence of Poojya Guruji Shri Venkatesa Bhattachar’s moorthi. The devotees considered this as divine blessings.
After the Ganesh Puja and the Maha sankalpam, the mandala Pooja with 77 kalash around the homam kundam was done.
These Kalasams represent the various Devatas that are present in various directions. These Devatas are generally invoked to protect the conduct of the yagna and make it successful. To draw a modern parallel it is something like creating a security blanket around an event. In the days of yore, every homam or yagna was protected by dik-palakas (literally, guardian deities of each direction). These kalasams represents these guardian devatas symbolically. Goddess Durga was invoked in the main kalasha.
After Agni Mathanam, Ganapathy Homam was conducted followed by the Navagraha Homam. Navavarana Pooja and Homam was conducted subsequently.
The main Nava Chandi was then conducted amidst chanting of the mantras from Devi Mahatmyam. As the Maha Yogini pooja was being conducted the important ritual of Suvasini Pooja and Kumari Pooja was conducted simultaneously.
After the Poorna Ahuti and shodasa upachara was conducted all the deities that were invoked were placed in their yadaasthanam (in their own original places).
The holy teerthan from the kalasams was distributed by Sri Lakshmi Ji to each and every devotee present there. This teertham is considered divine and holy as it has special ingredients that have the capacity to absorb the divine vibrations that issues forth from the chanting of the mantras.Indeed , all those who were present experienced the bliss on the occasion.
It is interesting to note that one of the manifestations of Durga Saptashati Homam in this physical world is the sudden change in the weather in and around the place where the Homam was conducted. This can happen within a day or two. It significant, therefore that while the Homam was being conducted there was sudden lowering of temperature and a strong drizzle was seen. And within the next forty eight hours a strong rain lashed Tiruvallur for four hours continuously. There can be no better prasadam than this when a Nava Chandi Homam was done for the sake of Lokashemam.
